Description | Dr. Jennifer Reimer will give a guest lecture and lead a workshop on the topic of multilingual writing and translation. Specifically, Dr. Reimer will present instances of multilingual writing and code-switching in a selection of contemporary poetry and introduce us to her latest project on transnational feminist poetics. Her visit will provide a unique perspective given that she not only explores questions of translation in her academic work but also incorporates different languages into her own poetic practices, such as in her current poetry manuscript Keşke. Dr. Jennifer Reimer received her PhD in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, Berkeley in 2011, and her MFA in Writing from the University of San Francisco in 2005. She is the 2011 winner of the Gloria E. Anzaldúa Award for Independent Scholars. Dr. Reimer is currently a Lise Meitner Postdoctoral Fellow in American Studies at the University of Graz. Her publications have appeared in Western American Literature, ARIEL (A Review of International English Literature), The Journal of Popular Music Studies, Latino Studies, The Journal of Transnational American Studies, and the new Routledge Companion to Transnational American Studies. She is also a creative writer who published her first prose poetry book, The Rainy Season Diaries, in 2013 by Quale Press. The collection was translated into Turkish in 2017. She is the co-founder and co-editor of Achiote Press, an independent press dedicated to spotlighting underrepresented authors and artists. |
