The purpose of this PhD Day is to address two important issues that doctoral students are confronted with in their career: the relation with their (co-)supervisor(s) and job prospects beyond academia after the completion of their PhD. The PhD Day is aimed both at doctoral students in linguistics and literature. The morning session will be dedicated to discussing the relationship between PhD candidate and supervisor and provide doctoral students with practical information on co-supervision options at different universities. Points of discussion will include the respective role and duties of supervisors and doctoral candidates, problems that may affect the relationship between supervisor and doctoral candidate and possible strategies to improve this relationship, advantages and disadvantages of co-supervision. No supervisors will be present during this part of the event. The afternoon session will focus on job prospects beyond academia. Doctoral students will receive input on possible career paths and on how to increase their chances on the job market. Following the input doctoral students will have the opportunity of discussing individual questions and issues with the invited speaker and their colleagues.
