Summary of thesis

I am currently doing my PhD in which I explore and evaluate the ways in which the aging process affects female sexuality, literary creation and gender relations in the fictional works of Erica Jong that would lead to the questioning of negative constructs of aging, sexism and undermining stereotypes of passivity towards elderly women. My research is in line with other fields of study, such as gerontology, sociology, and women and gender studies.

The key topics of the thesis (in relation to aging) are:

Female sexuality, gender relations, womanhood, motherhood, travelling and sex (with a special focus on Venice), death and spirituality, female bonding, intimate relations / marriage, embodiment and body politics (with a special focus on plastic surgery), American lit.
