Late Modern English language use across gender and class: a historical sociolinguistic investigation

Summary of thesis

Through the analysis of a corpus of letters written by both women and men from all social classes, I will investigate the influence of gender and class on the English (written) language throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as the factors that played a central role in the development of language use in the Late Modern English period.
