Christopher Marlowe and the Rhetoric of Renaissance Authorship

My research interests gravitate around the question of epic heroism, in

particular around those thematic, stylistic and rhetorical expressions heroism

assumes in the literary production of Christopher Marlowe (1564 - 1593).

Taking into consideration a group of literary figures – identified by general

criticism as “tragic heroes” – I have already attempted to explore the theme

of heroism through my undergraduate dissertation. At the moment, I am

still trying to investigate the subject individually, mainly concentrating on

the revolutionary language of Elizabethan and Jacobean authors, and on the

way in which Christopher Marlowe came to formulate his own heroic

literary “I” within the emerging discourse of authorial roles.
