Summary of thesis

the transatlantic reception and cultural afterlife of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1818) within the American literary imaginary, specifically focusing on the figure of the destroyed female creature. By synthesizing transatlantic studies, feminist theory, and Literature and Environment studies, this research explores how the “monstrous” and “un-created” female body becomes a key figure through which American literature negotiates questions of gender, social, and environmental control.
