Summary of thesis

The overarching concept of the research is developing the social semiotics of waste displacement through an analysis of the “out of sight, out of mind” ideology underpinning Swiss waste management systems . In this sense, by analyzing this ideology I propose an investigation whose main goal is de-fetishizing and revealing the sociopolitical, discursive-material and spatiotemporal enjeux underpinning a selected sets of waste management practices and sites central to the eternal displacement of waste.
